How to study
- Pre-analytical work (ID, requisitions, collection, handling) is close to half the exam.
- Know CLSI order of draw and tube additives cold.
- Know rejection criteria and what to do with irreplaceable specimens.
- Know WHMIS 2015 pictograms, TDG UN3373 packaging and routine practices.
- Most questions are application, not recall: think 'what should the MLA do next?'
- Practise every day in short sets. When you miss one, work out why each wrong option is wrong.

Question 2
A centrifuge has a rotor radius of 10 cm and spins at 3000 rpm. Using RCF = 1.118 x 10⁻⁵ x r x rpm², what is the approximate RCF?
- A. 1,006 x g
- B. 2,012 x g
- C. 101 x g
- D. 503 x g
Show the answer
A. 1,006 x g
1.118 x 10⁻⁵ x 10 x 3000² = 1006.2 ≈ 1,006 x g. Labs specify g-force, not rpm, because RCF depends on rotor radius.
Question 3
How many patient identifiers are required before collecting a specimen?
- A. Room number only
- B. One
- C. At least two, such as full name and date of birth or health card number
- D. One, such as the room number, if the patient is well known to the staff on the unit
